These athletes often dream of college scholarships or professional careers. Each game day brings excitement and pressure, with players pushing their limits to score touchdowns and defend their teams. Off the field, they juggle friendships, studies, and responsibilities, shaping them into disciplined, resilient young adults.
It is inevitable amid a contact sport all dangerous contact and situations cannot be eradicated, much as we wish it could. Efforts are made to make football as safe as possible for student-athletes.
Yet here we are right after Labor Day, contemplating another rash of tragedies in high school football. With those tragedies come another set of well-meaning people and communities wondering what, if anything, they could have done to prevent it.
